October 19 updates

Bunny encourages everyone to come tonight, and every Sunday at 6:00 p.m. Tonight will be the great music of David Phelps. Next week we’ll start studying the history of war in the Middle East, starting with Ishmael.

Fusion youth group (for student’s grades 7th – 12th) will be hosting a Halloween lock-in on Friday October 31st from 10 PM to 8 AM. Come and bring a friend for games, food and fun!

Here’s a list of things that are needed to take to Haiti November 3-13: LOTS of Ziploc freezer bags (quart and gallon size), and Terro ant traps; a few pot holders, dish towels and dish cloths, large bottles of Calcium with Vitamin D tablets, Gatorade Instant powder packets, chocolate chips and butterscotch chips, Dream Whip packages. Please bring these things to church by October 26th. Ask Greg or Roberta for more details, or Contact us.

Our Community Thanksgiving dinner will be held on Saturday, November 22nd. Please sign up to let us know that you can help to call and invite, cook, set up, serve, clean up, make desserts  and deliver dinners. Call Gail at 624-3894 ASAP to let her know what you can do!  We served over 100 people last year!

Dress a Girl – We will get together after the holidays for another kit-making workshop. In the meantime, please buy fabric (not too thin or lightweight), and notions if you’re able. There is money that has been donated, which can be used to reimburse you if you buy fabric and notions for DAG. We’ll need fabric, bias tape, 1/2″ elastic, thread, yarn, etc. If you don’t sew but want to help, consider donating money for fabric (click the “Donate” button on the right). For more info about DAG, see the Dress a Girl website.

Operation Christmas Child – As a church family, we plan to pack 100 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. There are tips on how to pack a shoe box and gift suggestions here. Note that you can build a shoe box online if it’s easier than packing a shoe box yourself. Bring your shoe boxes to church, where we’ll store them until it’s time to ship them off.

If you can’t help in person, you can use that “Donate” button on the right side of the screen to make a tax-deductable donation to LLWC with PayPal or your credit card anytime!

In addition to the regular events listed below, here are a few new announcements and reminders:

Saturday September 20th – Come to the LL Wesleyan Fellowship hall at 9:00 for breakfast for men, women and children. The Weavers from Lake Pleasant will be our guests and will tell us about their plans to go to Papua New Guinea with Wycliffe Translators. There will be pancakes, sausage, breakfast casserole, fruit salad, coffee, etc.

Haiti – At least five people from LLWC plan to go to Haiti on a short-term missions trip this November, and they’ll need supplies and funding for the trip. We’ve had several yard sales and fund-raisers, and WKFM (Wesleyan Kids for Missions) is collecting money for Bibles and supplies. Please be praying and asking how God might use you in this missionary effort. For an update on the orphanage that we support, click here.

Announcements

A couple of new announcements from church this morning.

  • Five people from LLWC plan to go to Haiti on a short missions trip this November, and they’ll need supplies and funding for the trip. In the past, we’ve had a church garage sale to raise funds. This year, there will be a yard sale at Venita’s house. If you have things for the sale, take them to Venita’s house the day before. We need to raise about $1500. There will also be a Farmers Market on Thursdays in LL to raise money. If you have questions, Contact us.
  • Pastor John went to a conference this week, and LLWC was honored for our growth in the community. We’re at 6% and 8% is a significant number. Ask Pastor John for more details, and thank him for all his hard work in reaching out to our community!
  • Pray for Bunny, as he’s being treated for an infection.
  • Welcome home to Bill & Jo-Cinda! It’s great to see them back in LL.
  • See more announcements below.

February 1

Announcements:

  • WKFM (Wesleyan Kids for Missions) meets every 3rd Sunday during Pastor’s message. See Greg or Contact us for more info. WKFM is collecting money for Bibles and supplies for Haiti. They have already raised $120 for children in Albania. You can help by giving spare change to Greg or one of the kids.
  • We plan to send a team to Haiti in November 2014 for a short-term missions trip. Plan to join us and pray for God to use you. Several years ago, Dan and Joy’s daughter did a video of the orphanage that we support in Haiti (at that time, there were 30 children in the orphanage); you can see that video here. There are now 80 children in the orphanage, and in April of 2013, they moved into the new 4 acre Children’s Village; you can see more recent photos here.
  • As a church family, we plan to pack 100 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. There are tips on how to pack a shoe box and gift suggestions here. Note that you can build a shoe box online if it’s easier than packing a shoe box yourself. Bring your shoe boxes to church, where we’ll store them until it’s time to ship them off.

For more information, contact Pastor John at LongLakePastor@live.com or 518-624-2411.

Announcements: August 18

There were many praises shared in church this morning, but two announcements stand out:

  • LLWC is planning a missions trip to Haiti for two weeks in 2014: the last week of November and the first week of December. Start saving and planning! See Venita for more information.
  • Rickie Miller encouraged us to get off the couch and start moving with him, alternating between walking, jogging, walking, etc. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday afternoons. See Rickie for details. He reminded us that running is based on scripture, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-3). Those of us who can’t run can pray for those who do! 😉

Here are the regular events and meetings throughout the week:

  • Tuesday morning Mens’ prayer group meets at 6:30 am.
  • Wednesday night Prayer Meeting is at 6:00 pm. Dave Carney is teaching on the Letter to the Romans.
  • Thursday Night Ride Small group meets at 7 pm for the new study, “Taking Responsibility.” We all have them. But we don’t all take them as seriously as we ought to. Wouldn’t it be great if we all took responsibility for the things we are responsible for for? Wouldn’t it be great if you took responsibility for everything you’re responsible for? It’s time to stop the finger-pointing and excuse-making and to remove the “ir” in irresponsible!
  • The “Velocity” Middle School ministry (grades 5-8) meets Saturday nights at 7 pm.
  • Sunday Evening Bible Study meets at 6:00 pm. Bunny Austin is leading a study of the Gospels.
  • “Fusion” High School student ministry meets Sunday nights from 7 pm to 9 pm (grades 9-12).

And please pray for “Back to Church Sunday” – September 15, 2013 – See http://backtochurch.com/videos and plan to invite a friend!

Mission yard sale

Our Mission yard sale is planned for Aug. 9-Aug. 10 (town wide yard sale) at the Sullivan House next to the church. If you have items to sell, please drop them off at the Sullivan House or call Venita at 624-6324. This will be the only yard sale that we have this year. The Sullivan House is scheduled to be torn down right after the sale.  Doors, windows, etc. that can be salvaged will be sold before or at the sale. If you can work Sat. morning at the sale, please let Venita know.

We also raise funds through the Long Lake market on Thursdays.  Proceeds go to the Mission Fund.  If you would like to help out with homemade goods including baked goods, just bring them by the market at 9:00. Last year we were able to send $3,000.00 that was needed for the work on the Guest House in Haiti. This year the new Hospital that will be opened in Sept. is asking for funds. We also hope to send a team of adults and youth in Feb. to deliver Bibles.

October 8: Update

Several important updates:

  • the Bishops have an important prayer request. See: Bishops newsletter Oct 07 2012
  • come to meet Cory and Kris Thede, missionaries to Haiti, who will be joining us for breakfast this Saturday, October 13th, at 9 AM in the Fellowship Hall of LLWC. Click on the link to read more about them.
  • the Community Garden is producing a bumper crop this year! About 40 people helped to harvest the potato crop on September 22nd. There was a total of 69 bushels of potatoes (3600 pounds!). Leah won a prize for the biggest and ugliest potato, Sarah won for the smallest, and Keith won the guess for the amount of potatoes harvested! Everyone celebrated with a turkey dinner, and plenty of potatoes!

September 14: Announcements!

At this week’s Board Meeting, these dates and events were discussed.

  • Volunteers are needed to meet Monday mornings to clean the church or sign up for specific jobs (e.g. dusting, straightening pew books, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming upstairs or downstairs). Many hands make light work! By cleaning the church, our youth programs can continue.
  • September 15 Men’s and women’s pancake breakfast at 8:00 AM. with work-bee to follow. There are jobs for everyone – from cleaning the church to installing doors and cellar windows at the parsonage. Join us for pancakes, coffee, and good fellowship!
  • September 22 – Potato harvest at Chris Thompson’s. We’ll start about 1:30, with Turkey dinner to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Please bring friends, children, pails, and potato hooks! Dinner will be in the Fellowship Hall after digging, probably about 5-5:30 PM. We expect a bigger crowd this year, so we regrettably must move the location for the dinner. Please contact Cynthia to let her know what dish(es) you can bring. We’ll need some help in the kitchen in the afternoon as well. It’s imperative that you beg or borrow potato hooks; we’ll need all we can get! Dress for the weather; wear boots; we anticipate a muddy field. (The Rain date is 9/29.)
  • September 27 – Open house at school. We’ve been invited to have a booth at the open house at school. We need your ideas and manpower for this event. This is the first time we have been invited! Please keep this in your prayers!
  • September 29Vision meeting following service and ice cream social! Have a vision for our church? No dreams are too big! Remember, if you have the faith of a mustard seed… Are we doing all that we can to train up disciples or are we just hiding our shillings in the ground with no resulting multiplication? Let’s dream big and get some ideas flowing! “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people” Matthew 4:18-20.
  • Halloween – We need a committee to plan trunk candy giving in our church parking lot for Halloween. This is a tremendous outreach opportunity!
  • Thanksgiving – We need a committee to plan our Thanksgiving Community dinner for November 17. Please be thinking of how you can serve.
  • Christmas – We need a committee to plan Christmas decorating, play, pageant.
  • Maybe this sounds ambitious, but we know that God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called! “I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Phil. 4:13).
  • If you would love to support these outreach events but cannot physically be here to help, you could help by sending a check to the church (PO Box 322, Long Lake, NY  12847).

We also have an update from Veronica: September 12 2012 update.

And an update on our Missions giving for Haiti.

And we have a visual update on the Community Garden. Please join us for the potato harvest on September 22nd!
