Updates and announcements for this week:

  • Wednesdays: The Women’s prayer group meets at 8:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall. See Karen for more info.
  • Saturday, December 13th at 4:00 is the LLWC Adult Christmas Party. This is a fun, silly, Chinese auction. Please bring a “White Elephant” gift of $5.00 value or less, and a dish to pass.
  • Saturdays: Fusion Youth Group meets from 6:00-8:00 PM.
  • Sundays: Children’s Church is for K-4th graders and meets during the worship service (11:00).
  • Sundays: The Nursery is available during worship (11:00).
  • Pastor’s Open House for Christmas is Friday, December 19th from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Parsonage. Amy and Pastor John ask that you not bring anything! They’ll be serving appetizers and desserts.
  • December 24th: Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 6:00 PM. Bring your family and friends for our intimate gathering!
  • Pastor Appreciation: Before our dear friend Art Brockner died it was his wish that the Gocke family use his time share in Orlando, FL and go to Disney World as a family trip. Since we did not do a formal Harvest Sunday or Pastor Appreciation gift from the church family I’d like to try to raise the $2700 needed to get them there  and to Disney.   If you would like to help fulfill Art’s wish please mark your love offering “Pastor appreciation”.  They would be going Jan. 12 – 15.   I’m sorry I didn’t get this out sooner.  Please pass on the info to those who would be interested.   Still make out checks to the church but mark for Pastor (from Gail Seaman).

If you have any questions, Contact Us or call the church office at 518-624-2411 or email Pastor at DrJohnGocke@hotmail.com.

August 10 updates

Lots of announcements and updates:

  • Thanks to all who helped harvest the broccoli in the Community Garden last Saturday. Chris estimates that they have about 225 heads for the season at about a pound apiece!
  • Thanks to everyone who prayed for the youth group as they went to Kingdom Bound! They survived and came home in one piece. Lots of great speakers — ask the youth! Five young men rededicated their lives to Christ! About 10,000 Christians were there! Great experience for our kids.
  • Venita reports that we made about $715 on the garage sale — money that will go toward the mission trip to Haiti in November.
  • Praise God for many blessings and answered prayers!
  • Pray for the families who lost loved ones this week — Art’s family, the young man who drowned at Buttermilk Falls, and others.
  • The memorial service for Art Brockner will be Sunday afternoon August 24th at 2 PM at LLWC.
  • Thanks to Pastor John for another great lesson on The Prayer of Jabez. Here are some scriptures that he referred to: 1 Chronicles 4:9-10, Job 1:9-10, 1 Peter 5:8, 2 Timothy 2:22, Philippians 4:6-7, 1 Corinthians 10:13. Reminder: when we ask God for something, be specific as Jabez was, and have confidence that God will grant your request, as He did for Jabez!
  • For more information, contact us.

Reminder for this weekend

Just a reminder that the church garage sale to benefit missions is this Friday and Saturday (the 8th and 9th) in the fellowship hall of the Wesleyan Church.

Please bring your donated items into the fellowship hall (the basement) of the church by 3 PM Thursday. Your donations are what makes this effort possible.

July 20th announcements

Some announcements and joys that were shared today:

  • We need folks to sign up to provide food for 20 teens for when they go to Kingdom Bound at Darien Lake (August 3-6). Please contact Kathryn or Pastor John if you can provide a meal. The teens also need a screen tent for their camping trip, 3 large coolers, and a 6-person tent. There is room for one more teen to join them.
  • Children’s Church includes grades Kindergarten through 4th, and meets during worship service. Thank you Kathryn, for your work with our youth!
  • Wesleyan Teen Camp – You can sponsor a teen to go to camp for $220 (grades 7 -12) and kids for $190 (grades 4-6). See the information on the table in the entryway, or ask Pastor John.
  • Art is in the hospital with respiratory problems and has stage 4 lung cancer. Please keep Art in your prayers.
  • “Mystery of the  Buttercups” — a historic play about a true event in Long Lake — will be performed at the Long Lake Town Hall on July 25th at 7:30 pm. If you have trouble hearing, there are seats reserved for you in the front row. Several of the actors are local folks that you’ll probably recognize!
  • Remember all prayer concerns that have been shared in church recently. Even if you don’t know the need, God does!
  • Join us every Sunday for “Sunday School” at 10:00 and Worship at 11:00. See other events below. You can always Contact us with questions.

And here’s just a bit of Pastor’s John’s lesson this morning, about humbling serving in the Body of Christ:

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully” (Romans 12:3-8 NIV).

Remember the power of prayer in the Prayer of Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:9-10); Jabez just asked God to bless him and enlarge his territory. He left the details up to God — and God blessed him! Remember the story of George Mueller, who built orphanages with prayer and no money; he trusted God to provide and He did! What a great lesson in faith and the power of prayer!
